David Arciga

David Felicisemo Maikai “D” Arciga, 61, of Paauilo, died Aug. 11, 2019, at the North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea. Born Oct. 21, 1957, in Honokaa, he was a hairdresser.

Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Sept. 14 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Funeral service will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire is requested. No flowers.

He is survived by companion, Charles “Chuck” Wolfe of Paauilo; sister, Jacqueline (Robert) Tanoue of Honokaa; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Generalisimo Madriaga

Generalisimo B. “The General” Madriaga, 82, of Hilo, died Aug. 22, 2019, in a private care home in Keaau. Born Aug. 15, 1937, in the Philippines, he was retired as a laborer for the construction industry, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kilauea Ward and the Laborers’ International Union of North America (L.I.U.N.A.) – Local 368 Hawaii.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ponahawai Chapel, 522 Ponahawai St. in Hilo. Funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at the Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo, Ilima Section. Casual attire.

He is survived by sons, Benedict (Michiko) Madriaga of Canada, Francis (Jackie) Madriaga of the Philippines, Gene (Joy) Madriaga of Hilo, William (Wendilei) Keanu, Jr. of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Wayne (Annette) Keanu of Waianae and Alfred (Myra) Keanu of Waiohinu; daughters, Madeline Madriaga of Canada, Luana (John) Fox of Kaneohe, Charmaine (Dane Sesson) Keanu of Naalehu and Maile (Clyde Kaneshiro) Keanu of Waiohinu; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Beatrice Toutai

Beatrice Momi “Porky” “Kaho’opomaika’i” “Nurse Bee” “Aunty Beebee” (Namauu) Toutai, 69 of Keaukaha, died Aug. 22, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born and raised in Hilo, she was a retired OB/GYN registered nurse at Hilo Medical Center, Kuakini Hospital and Kona Community Hospital. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keaukaha Ward, and a Kupuna with the Keola Ponono Nakupuna.

Celebration of Life will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sept. 8, at the Haili Tent at 33 Noeau St., next to the Panaewa Park. potluck style. Please bring your favorite dish or dessert to share.

She is survived by son, Richard Toutai; daughter, Kainoa Nohealani (Toutai) Aitaro; sisters, Margaret “Maggie” (Wesley) (Namauu) Kimura and Lovey (Kepoo) Toki; one grandson; one granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

Idamae Sine

Idamae Kelii Sine, 90, of North Kohala, died Sept. 2, 2019, at her home. Born May 16, 1929, in Honolulu, she was a retired professor of nursing for the University of Utah and past president of Kohala Hospital Auxiliary.

Memorial service will be held 10 a.m. until noon Sept. 9 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 55-524 Hawi Road, Hawi. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Kohala Hospital Auxiliary, P.O. Box 430, Kapaau, Hawaii 96755.

She is survived by companion, Ray Chavez of North Kohala; daughter, Leianne (Scott) Buie; sister, Iwalani Levi all of Utah; eight grandchildren, Numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Walter Akimo, 85 of Hilo, died on Sept. 4, 2019.

Hanne Jernstrom

Hanne Unger Jernstrom, 88, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 2, 2019, at her home. Born Sept. 2, 1931, in Copenhagen, Denmark, she was a homemaker and a former volunteer for Kona Community Hospital.

She is survived by sons, Nils (Dottie) Jernstrom, Paul (Sheri) Jernstrom; brothers, Mogens Wiese all of California, Jorgen Wiese of Denmark; hanai daughter, Brandi (Chris Vasquez) Planck; six grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pedro Dominguez

Pedro Domingo Dominguez, 97, of Honomu, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at home. Born on May 28, 1922, in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he retired from Hilo Coast Processing Company as a heavy equipment operator.

Friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 10:30 a.m. funeral service. Casual attire; burial at Homelani Memorial Park, section 7.

He is survived by wife, Feliza Dominguez of Honomu; daughters, Bernadette (Wendell) Kelii, Becky Dominguez and Krystel (David) Ua, Jr. from Hilo, Barbara Kiser of Honolulu; sons, Alfredo (Sal Hagiwara) Yamongan, Jr. of Hilo, Ronald Dominguez of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Anthony (Melani) Dominguez of Keaau; sister, Angeles Helen Quinto of Philippines; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister in-law; one brother-in-law.

Richard Basque

Richard Basque, 84, of Hilo, died Sept. 3, 2019, at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a retired truck driver for Keaau Sugar, Hilo Coast Processing, Hamakua Sugar, and Kau Sugar.

Visitation will take place 9-11 a.m. Sept. 14 at the House Hilo Assembly of God Church, 2282 Kanoelehua Ave. A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. An inurnment service will be at noon Sept. 17 at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

He is survived by daughters, Deborah Mercado of Paradise Park, Kathleen Basque of Oklahoma, Donna Mae (Byron Sr.) Smith of Hilo, and Mary (Andre) Randall of Menifee, Calif.; sons, Clifford (Mary) Basque of Oklahoma, Richard Maldonado of Hilo, Anthony “Tony” Maldonado of Hilo, and Rodney Maldonado of Hilo; sisters, Lorinda “Dolly” Abis of Keaau, Leonora LaVoie of Hilo, and June Hernkind of Washington; brother, Joe Basque of Oahu; one sister-in-law; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sherrie Berido

Sherrie Miyuki Hokomoto Berido, 50, of Hilo, died Aug. 28, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Hilo and was an invoice clerk with the Hilo Wal-Mart Stores and a former sales associate with the Kona Wal-Mart Stores.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Casual attire.

She is preceded in death by her father, Tokuichi Hokomoto.

She is survived by husband, Hilton Berido of Hilo; son, Chance (Sharene) Berido of Waipahu; daughters, Tiana (Colton) Wong and Kelcey (John) Figueroa of Hilo; mother, Pauline Hokomoto of Hilo; brother, Kevin Hokomoto of Hilo; five grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Almi Latrik

Almi Latrik, 43, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 21, 2019 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Mili, Marshall Islands on Nov. 20, 1975, she was a homemaker and a member of Marshallese Assembly of God Church.

Funeral service will be held 5-9 p.m., Sept. 18, at Dodo Mortuary Hilo Chapel. A 6 p.m. all-night vigil will be held Sept. 20 at the BNJ Marshallese First International Church at 74-5596 Pawai Place in Kailua-Kona. A morning gathering will continue at the church Sept. 21,, followed by a 4 p.m. burial at Naalehu County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.

Kenneth Horio

Kenneth Yoshiyuki “Yoshi” Horio, 83, of Hilo, died Aug. 22, 2019, in the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Facility in Hilo. Born in Hilo on Sept. 8, 1935, he was retired from Verizon as a telephone technician, a United States Army veteran, an avid fisherman and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services held.

Survived by wife, Etsuko Horio of Hilo; daughters, Suzette (Lance) Serikaku of Honolulu and Pam (Douglas) Oki of Hilo; sister, Daisy (Norman) Kujubu of Sacramento, California; two grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
